CENTER PURPOSE:
Helping students "see" mathematics...

The purpose of the Center of Excellence for Mathematical Literacy is to promote mathematical literacy for middle school students by engaging teachers in job-embedded, ongoing professional development (PD) focused on the use of specific Mathematical Teaching Practices (NCTM, 2014), which are aligned with the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards and entail the use of content-specific language and literacy practices.

CENTER GOALS:

The CEML has three main goals: promoting high leverage teaching practices, developing supports and systems, and raising awareness of the important role mathematical literacy plays in the doing, learning, and teaching of mathematics.
